ما هو Gerund؟
Gerund هي أفعال تضاف لها ing وتعمل عمل الإسم مثل: Speaking، Doing، Writing حيث أن هذه
الكلمات هي أفعال ولكن لما أضفنا لها ing أصبحت تعمل عمل الإسم ولها استخدام خاص
يسمى Gerund.
* ملاحظة:
- في حالة إذا ما جاء الفعل + ing على
شكل فعل فإنه يسمى Present Participle وليس Gerund
- متى نستخدم Gerund؟
هناك عدة حالات لاستخدام Gerund وهي:
1. إذا جاء في بداية الجملة Subject:
- Reading enriches our vocabulary.
- Lying is a bad habit.
2. إذا جاء في نهاية الجملة Complement:
- My hobby is singing.
- My wish is traveling
(around the world).
3. بعد حروف الجر Prepositions:
- I am fond of learning English.
- They left without
saying a word.
... --> in - at - on - with - by - before - after - to - for
4. بعد أفعال مركبة Phrasal Verbs:
- I am looking forward to
meeting you.
- I stay up watching cartoons.
... --> get over - look into - call off - stay up - give up - be used to
5. بعد أفعال معينة Certain Verbs:
- The criminal admitted
committing the crime.
- He stopped smoking at a late age.
--> waste - appreciate - enjoy - love - keep - regret - suggest - go - need - consider -complete - advise - deny - miss - quit – resist ...
6. بعد بعض العبارات Some Expressions:
- It’s no use staying here.
- I can’t resist eating chocolate.
... I can't bear/stand - there's no point in - I don't mind - it's no good -
